In the recent Ohrid meeting the presidents of Albania, Macedonia and Bulgaria have pledged to increase cooperation among their countries and speed up the construction of European Corridor 8, ATA news agency reported.

Croatia and Bulgaria have both turned down the controversial UK and Italian idea that they house asylum camps for immigrants trying to get into the EU. The proposal had been presented by UK at the Thessaloniki EU summit where it had been clashed.

At next week's EU summit in Thessaloniki, Bulgaria will fight to make EU member states give some commitments that it can finish negotiations next year and become a member of the EU in 2007. However, it is up against apathy on the part of the EU 15 who recently gave the nod to the biggest enlargement in the Union's history.
